Last of the filming process

I have now completed the last of my filming. This included reshooting of the white wall scene and field scene as well as the new forest scene.

Step 1 - Costume/Make up

The forest scenery showed her in a big coat as that was most appropriate to wear because of the weather conditions but also it didn't look bad against the colours used in the mise en scene. I made her wear boots but in particular military boots as they look nice and create the type of image I wanted for my artist. The clothing and makeup wasn't hard to decide on when filming and worked quite well I think on the days of filming. I chose to put on my artist low key eye makeup as this wouldnt be that noticeable with the artist having her hood up in the footage. However I chose to make her wear bright red lipstick as this would be something that stands out no her face especially with her singing in this scene.
Step 2 - Location

The forest area I chose to use looked quite abandoned which was again what I was hoping for. The trees were quite big meaning I could use a variation of different shots to capture them. It was also somewhere that I was permitted to use which was one less complication. I also chose to film against the white wall that is available in college and in the photography room. The white wall that is based outside was a good place to film as the daylight reflected well on the artists face and highlighted the vibrant colours that were on hair such as her bright red hair. This is something I chose to do as a reshoot from the white wall I previously used indoors. The photography room lighting didnt work that well but I decided to experiment with it and it taught me that experimenting now will save me from making any mistakes last minute.

Step 3 - Improvising

As I decided to not use the footage from the house and I didnt want to reshoot as the lighting wouldnt have changed, I decided that coming up with new ideas may work as an improvisation strategy. I decided that including shots of trees and the plants in the field may work nicely as the song is fast and has a sense of calmness to it. The connotations behind plants and nature are quite positive and beautiful which is the type of imagery and representations I wanted to create in my video. Whether the improvisation shots work is something I am willing to take a risk with as I think they could look effective in my final video.
Step 4 - Difficulties

Some of the difficulties I experienced whilst in the process of filming were the timing, weather conditions and availability. Being able to film wasnt a problem but planning when to film was. It made it hard to get a hold of my artist as they have commited them selves to their job and so when I have had the time to film the weather has been awkward. The first footage I filmed was a particular bright day were I could take advantage of the field. Due to sudden weather changes e.g snow I decided to change my idea to work around it and planned to film during but again this got cancelled as the artist wasnt available to use at the last minute. When I did eventually get back into the roll of filming the snow had cleared up meaning the new ideas I had formed could no longer be. This didnt effect my work too much as I had already had ideas that didnt include the snow and it actually turned out they were better. However a problem that occured when shooting my forest scenery was the only day we had availble to film was the day it decided to rain meaning the footage isnt as good as it could have been. Also I feared that it may loose continuity as in the other footage captured it isnt raining.

Step 5- Things that worked
One thing that did work were some of the shots captured on the video. I think some have worked quite nicely and this is because I knew what shots I wanted before I started to film, showing some organisation and planning.
