Existing Digipak advertisement

This is another example of a existing advertisement for a digipak. It is again one that advertises for the original artist that sang the song I chose for my music video so is good inspiration for mine. Conventionally most advertisements show the artist is some form whether this is a photo just of them or of the album cover. This particular advert shows the cover of the album which the audience will be able to identify with and recognise if they were to buy it. Another convention of the advertisements is quotes from recognisable and popular sources. An example here would be 'Q magazine' and 'The fly' who have quoted Ellie Gouldings album Lights. They also have ratings most of the time being the typical 4 stars as that is the best rating and the album is made to look like it is worthy of peoples money and effectively really good. If an advertisement showed the album with only 1 or 2 stars then this wouldn't appeal to the audience and they most likely wouldnt want to buy it. Its all about how the artist is represented through image and text. The language of the advertisement.

The image of the artist shows her in a way that relates to the title of the album as well as one that the audience may get. The album is called lights and Ellie appears to have lights in her hair showing consistency with image and text. The artist also seems to be looking away which may indicate loss of connection with the audience. However this could suggest that the connection is with the music and not necessarily with her image. The name of the artist is the biggest thing that stands out on this advert and this is down to the fact the name is the first thing the audience are attracted to. If the audience are aware of the artist name they may or may not automatically know of their music. (depending if they are a fan of the artist) There isnt much use of colour on this advert with only gold, black and white being used. Although this may appear very simple it works quite effectively especially the gold glow around the artist. The glow connotes that the artist can some how create magic from her music and this is something that she wants to make the audience be aware of. It captivates the audience into wanting to know about her and her album. Most advertisements conventionally use 'album out now' or some phrase similar in order to promote it. This advert doesnt do that but just instead shows the success of it which could suggest that that is enough to make them buy it.

This advertisment influences the one I am hoping to create as I want the album cover to be feautred on mine just like this one. I also would like to include some quotes from magazines along with star ratings. I would like to think my advertisemnt will reflect the genre of my artist as I think this one does. Ellie Goulding's advert is quite dark which could relate to the indie side of her but its also quite mysterious and unique with the use of effects maybe showing the folk side to her. Folk isnt a genre that is well known and popular and so this could be introduced here in a good way so that the audience will like it.

This example of a digipak advertisment is different to the Ellie Goulding one, not only because of the different genres but in style and language also. It again advertises the artist and her album which is the overall intention of the advertisment. Like the Ellie Goulding advert, this shows the album cover of the digipak that is being advertised. Again this is so the audience are aware of what to look for if they are to purchase it. This advert has followed conventions in the sense that it has included the album information such as the name of it as well as other information that may atract audiences (includes 'price tag' feat BOB) noting regognisable songs that have already being released is a tool that most adverts tend to use as there is a chance the song is well known and if its liked then audiences may want to hear more material from that artist. Like this advert I will include titles of songs to appeal to audiences that may already be aware of the artist. The website of the artist as well and the record company are made visable also showing that extra detail that the audience may want to know. Featuring the website is also extra promotinal material for the artist as that is much bigger than this advert so will hold much more information that may interest audiences. This is something I will also want to include with my advert.

Something this advert doesnt do is feature quotes from popular sources. It is much more focused on what the album has to give in terms of song titles and how well the artist is already known. I hope to include quotes in my advert but I want to take influence from this and use the song technique.
The same use of colours are featured in this advert like the Ellie Goulding one. Eventhough they use the same colours the genres of both artists are very much different and this can still be identified. Jessie J is much more Pop and this can be seen through the style of writing she has chosen to use on her album cover. Her name 'Jessie J' is written in gold writing that appears to look quite bold and quick. The colour gold connotes money and bling and this is the style that her name is in. Some may say that the 'bling' look is a convention of hip hop and even RnB and Jessie herself sometimes includes rapping in her songs so could categorise herself into these genres also. Jessie J's image is very different to her font style. She is dressed in dark colours with black hair and black lips which some people may say connotes gothic look. This suggests that she is the type of artist to mix things up a bit and isnt afraid to be different and edgy. She creates a unique style with her music and this is reflected in her image and promotional work.
